Sounds like the best use of your time right now is doing as much research as you can and prepping all of your gear. What will you be doing when you have in-class time to work on your project since you won't be able to actually go fishing? Also, is your research focusing more on techniques/species in general or is it localize information? Who might be a mentor for you? How will you document your progress until the get the boat in the water? Hmm.
